Economic downturn creates Nissan cutbacks
Nissan is to halt production of two models at its Sunderland plant in response to a decline in demand as a result of the current problems in the UK’s economy.
Production of the Micra and Note models will end by November this year.
A spokesman said staff on the affected production line will report for work as usual but will undergo training and carry out maintenance work.
Nissan said they still aim to produce a record number of cars this year despite the cuts.
Production of the popular Qashqai model, begun earlier this year at the plant, will not be affected by the cuts.
