Tees valley firm a pioneer in Malaysia
A Tees Valley firm has succeeded in its bid to establish a manufacturing, research and development facility in Malaysia.
Hydrochem (UK) Limited, part of Hydrochem Group at Hartlepool, specialises in water treatment and environmental services. Launched more than 20 years ago, the company has the expertise and facilities to manufacture special chemicals formulated and designed for all aspects of water treatment and allied industries.
The company was keen to explore new markets and signed up to take part in market visits to Malaysia.
Bill Abbott, Managing Director at Hydrochem, said: “When we looked at the market potential in Malaysia and the wider area of Asia we realised we could only achieve so much if we appointed a distributor. By opening up a production and R&D facility it puts us in a much stronger position to exploit the opportunities to their full potential.
The new facility will include a water treatment plant as well as a ‘clean room’ facility and we’re already receiving lots of interest from various parties about setting up partnership deals with local and European companies.“
The High Commission in Malaysia has also invited Hydrochem to organise a seminar programme in Kuala Lumpar in the early part of 2009 and the company is working with a Malaysian university, University Putra Malaysia, in a bid to develop a scholarship programme for R&D.
