New deadline for national work experience awards
To allow for the pre-Christmas rush, the entry deadline for the National Council for Work Experience (NCWE) 2008/9 Awards has been extended from 12 December to 9 January - giving SMEs a further four weeks to enter their work placements schemes.
The NCWE Awards recognise employers who provide valuable work experience for students. This year’s Awards feature two categories dedicated to SMEs (under 10 employees and 10-250 employees) as well as a category for those who started new placement schemes within the last two years.
Heather Collier, NCWE Director said: “Increasingly employers are recognising the benefits of employing students at this time of year, in addition to traditional summer placements, to support heavy workloads. In the current financial climate this has never been more critical. Companies need to continue to employ work placement students to cut recruitment costs, helping to develop a skilled workforce for the future that will take us through troubled times.”
Entries will be assessed solely by online application and a maximum of six companies will be short-listed in each category. Winners will be announced at the Awards ceremony that will take place in London on 5 March 2009.
This year sponsors include Changeboard, AGR, GlaxoSmithKline, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Centrica and Futuretrack.
