Enterprising family firms recognised
Family businesses stand to win thousands as a new competition is announced.
Dragons’ Den winner and Reggae Reggae Sauce entrepreneur Levi Roots has joined with Barclays Local Business to search out the UK’s leading family business.
Winners will be chosen from nine regions, with one national winner receiving the support and advice of a ‘business angel’ from the bank for one year.
Some £17,500 in prize money is up for grabs too.
Roots said: “I’m looking to find the UK’s most exciting and enterprising family-run businesses in order to help them along the way. With the help of Barclays Local Business, we are going to inject a bit more spice into the prospects of these fantastic enterprises in 2009.”
There are around 3 million family firms in the UK, and it is estimated that they produce about a third of the UK’s wealth, boasting a combined turnover of over £1 billion.
Family businesses can enter the competition at www.barclays.com/familyaffair. Closing date for entries is 31 March.
