Entertaining entrepreneur opens North East circus extravaganza
A former trapeze artist with nearly 30 years’ experience is bringing a touch of the circus to the region by launching the North East Circus and Acrobatics School in Sunderland.
After performing his stunts in Europe, South America and Asia, Romanian Octavian Dirtu has settled in Hendon, Sunderland, following work on a number of shows at Newcastle’s Theatre Royal.
Octavian said: “The circus gave me the opportunity to travel the world and to perform in front of so many people. It was always fantastic to see the delight and amazement of the audience, so I really wanted to start the school to teach people how to perform, too.
“Although I had an idea of what I wanted to do, I wasn’t sure how to start the school and run it as a business. I attended a number of Business Link workshops and they provided me with the skills and support I needed.”
Business Link is currently holding workshops in the North East, helping aspiring business people to turn their ideas into sustainable enterprises.
Chris Simpson, account manager at Business Link, said: “Octavian’s story is an enthralling one and it’s been a pleasure to be involved in helping him to transform his idea into an exciting business. We have provided support and advice for all kinds of entrepreneurs with ideas which have gone from strength to strength, so we are looking forward to working with more people, whatever their ideas and experience.”
