North East businesswomen celebrate Women's Day
Over 40 eminent businesswomen from the North East attended an all-female event to mark International Women’s Day on 8 March, in Newcastle.
Margaret Ewing, vice chairman of Deloitte in the UK, opened the event aimed at current and future female leaders at Jesmond Dene House. Also present was Jane Atkinson, vice-president of Sembcorp Utilities, who talked about her experiences within the local business community.
The networking event took place as part of Deloitte’s Women’s Network, which was launched two years ago on International Working Women’s Day.
Deloitte’s Women’s Network was primarily set up to provide members with a forum to develop relationships with existing and potential key clients. The network also provides access to a variety of business role models, as well as a forum through which members can raise issues relevant to women in the workplace.
Rachel Pattison, an Audit senior manager at Deloitte in Newcastle, who organised the event along with corporate finance manager Kate Charlton, said: “We’re exceptionally happy with the success of the event, which has received positive feedback from those who attended.
“The speeches were extremely engaging and sparked an interesting and balanced debate about gender equality in the workplace. We are hoping to build on the success of this event with further events currently being planned.”
