New £3 million laundry opens in North Shields
It may not be the most exciting of industries, but someone has to clean dirty laundry - and a new facility on Tyneside is set to bring 80 new jobs to the area by the end of the year.
Fishers Services Limited has opened its new £3 million Linen Rental Facility in North Shields.
Situated at the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate, the site will become Fishers Services’ first linen hire production facility in England after the company’s existing four sites in Scotland.
Founded in 1900, the Scottish-based company specialises in laundry and textile rental services including table and bed linen, towels and chefs’ wear for the hospitality and leisure sectors. Fishers also supplies garment laundry and rental services to the healthcare, electronics, pharmaceuticals and food processing sectors.
Bruce McHardy, Fishers Managing Director, said: “While we have had a distribution presence in North Shields for over 10 years, this major investment represents a significant expansion of our service in North England and more than a tenfold increase in our workforce in the area.
“I believe it is this commitment to investment and innovation that is helping Fishers maintain its year on year growth, a major achievement in testing market conditions.”
Paul Buie, manager of Tyne and Wear Development Company, said: “Today’s news is hugely positive for Tyne and Wear and brings jobs and investment to the region. We’re proud to welcome Fishers to Tyneside and happy to have played a part in supporting the company’s expansion plans alongside other regional partners.”
