Veg oil fuels Wallsend cars
Wallsend is becoming the centre of oil production, thanks to nearby takeaway restaurants.
Greenlife fuels has just set up in business recycling old vegetable oil into biodiesel.
39-year-old David Parr set up the business at Morston Quays in Wallsend converting 100% waste oil to power diesel vehicles.
David thought of the idea when fuel prices rocketed last year. He wanted to make fuel cheaper for small businesses with fleets covering many miles and who were being hard-hit by the price hike.
Biodiesel works out at about 10p cheaper per litre than diesel bought from the filling station and is also kinder to the environment. The company hopes to produce around 30,000 litres a week.
