North East entrepreneur takes on iTunes
An entrepreneur is hoping his first business venture climbs to the top of the charts. Oliver Plumpton has just launched a new online music store, Lukesbox.com, which lets fans download a vast variety of MP3s.
An IT manager by profession, Mr Plumpton, 35, received professional start-up advice to get his new company off the ground.
He said: “Lukesbox.com is aimed at the kind of music fan who wants a simple method to download tunes. Some downloads can be quite complicated, but I wanted a facility that makes music much easier to access.”
Mr Plumpton received help from both South Tyneside Means Business and Business Link in launching Lukesbox.com.
He added: “They helped me with financial matters, drawing up a business plan and accounting. My immediate aim is to get the business more well-known through social networking sites such as Twitter and MySpace.”
Millions of MP3s are available through the download store, whose name was inspired by the traditional jukebox.
“I think there is a market out there for easily accessible digital music at reasonable rates, and I aim to develop the business into films and mobile phone content,” Mr Plumpton added.
