Company invests in green future
A North East building services firm is showing its commitment to the green future of the region with its latest acquisition.
The John N Dunn Group has bought renewable energy company SOL?O, which is to become the group’s specialist green energy division.
Head of Operations of SOL?O, Steve Wigham, said: “Increasingly businesses are looking at reducing energy costs and also lowering the impact of their business on the environment. Our success has been built on our ability to offer a service to businesses where we consult, design, supply, install, commission and service renewable technology.
“We offer technology which includes solar thermal, photovoltaics, heat pumps including ground source, Air Source, Water Source, Geothermal and heat recovery systems.
SOL?O have worked across the region on a variety of projects including providing Solar thermal systems at the housing development at Whinney Banks, Kielder Village and Hadstone as well as larger scale projects at the Sports and Leisure Centre at Catterick Garrison, various NHS Health Centres throughout the North East and offices recently built on the Cobalt Business Park at Wallsend.
The work of SOL?O is increasingly important with the recent announcement in the Budget by Alistair Darling setting the world’s first carbon budgets as required by the new Climate Change Act. These set a legally binding 34% reduction in emissions by 2020, and 14% of heat demand will need to be met by renewable energy sources by 2020.
Stephen Bilclough, Chief Executive of John N Dunn, said: “We have recognised the growing demand for renewable energy solutions for business which has led us to take full control of SOL?O in which we previously had a stake. We can offer businesses advice on all the issues around renewable energy including information about government legislation and grants.”
