Newcastle Airport 'most punctual'
Newcastle Airport boasts the UK’s best punctuality record for holiday charter flights, latest figures have showed.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said 85% of all charter flights departed on time in the first quarter of 2009, compared with a national average of 68%.
Scheduled flights from the region’s largest airport also outperformed the national average, with 82% departing on time between January and March this year. This represents a significant improvement in flight punctuality at Newcastle International compared to the same period last year.
Unavoidable delays were also kept to a minimum in the first quarter of the year, with the average length of delay to charter flights less than half that of every other surveyed airport.
Dave Laws, chief executive of Newcastle International, said: “This is excellent news for the airport, its airline partners and, of course, its passengers.
“It is testament to the considerable efforts and team-working of colleagues across the business that we are continuing to outperform our competitors in respect of the punctuality of our flights.
“And when delays unfortunately do occur, the CAA’s results also show that we have succeeded in keeping disruption to an absolute minimum.
“This survey reinforces the sense in flying from Newcastle International, rather than travelling to larger airports where punctuality suffers and delays are often much longer.”
