Angel features on new coin collection
One of the North East’s most iconic symbols is to feature on a new set of coins celebrating Britain’s history.
The Angel of the North, along with sites such as Stonehenge and Big Ben, and the 2012 Olympics, appear on the Royal Mint’s new ‘Celebration of Britain’ Silver Series.
The £5 Stonehenge coin has gone on sale at £27.45, with the following 17 coins being released every 28 days.
Dave Knight, the Royal Mint’s commemorative coin director, said: “People are very proud of Britain, its heritage and its history. The Celebration of Britain Silver Series is a collection of coins that embraces this pride and celebrates our nation’s achievements in a way that has never been done before on the UK’s coinage.”
