Gem of an idea makes Sunderland business sparkle
A Sunderland jewellery manufacturer is ringing the changes for UK jewellers after inventing a new ring-sizing tool.
The problem of sizing a wedding ring without taking away the bride-to-be’s engagement ring has been made easier through Houghton-based Quality Jewellery Solutions’ new system.
Graham Burnett, director at Quality Jewellery Solutions, said: “In the past it was tricky to fit a wedding band to an engagement ring and achieve a snug fit without taking the engagement ring away for comparison.
“We found that most women didn’t want to be without their engagement ring for the up to three months, which is what it can take to make a fitted wedding ring.”
Graham and business partner Ian Ward patented the Precision Fit System, a tool which enables the jeweller to take a full profile of an engagement ring in five minutes.
Now, around 30 independent bespoke jewellery stores in the UK are taking advantage of the new system.
Quality Jewellery Solutions received a marketing grant from Sunderland City Council to help spread the word about its innovative tool.
Councillor Bryan Charlton, Prosperous City Portfolio holder at Sunderland City Council, said: “Ian and Graham used their expertise in the jewellery market to develop a unique solution to a long-running problem.
“We were delighted to offer them business support to enable them to launch their new product. They are doing extremely well and we are certain the business will continue to grow and develop as more retailers realise the benefits of their product.”
