Metro down in Newcastle
A man who climbed up a signal gantry caused huge disruption to the Tyne and Wear Metro system on Tuesday.
Police were called to Jesmond station, Newcastle, at 5.30am, after the man was seen clambering up.
Officers began negotiating with him in an attempt to coax him down.
Nexus, operators of the Tyne and Wear Metro system, said: “Metro services are not operating between Gateshead and Four Lane Ends and Regent Centre.
“This is at the request of the police following an incident in the Jesmond area. Arrangements have been made for bus operators in the area to accept Metro tickets.”
