Wear Inns goes for growth with new outlets
North East-based Wear Inns will be expanding its pub estate this month with the addition of two new pubs – with plans to increase numbers further by the end of August.
The latest additions to Wear’s portfolio are The Guidepost at Springwell, near Washington and The New Inn at Wetherby in North Yorkshire, bringing the total number of pubs owned by the company to nine.
John Weir, Wear Inns’ Director, said: “The two new pubs have similar features and characteristics to the rest of our estate. They are both drinks-led rather than food reliant, offering good value all day, every day and importantly, they are very much part of their respective communities.”
While admitting that there are ‘issues and challenges’ in the licensed trade at the moment, John is unfazed by reports of rising closures in the pub industry.
John said: “the community pub may be a less popular sector than it was but we’re very well experienced in this area and when we buy new outlets, we ensure they each get the personal customer led treatment.
“We’ve not diversified too far from our original concept and I believe it’s this personal, almost old fashioned approach which is proving resilient in such turbulent times.”
Deals on The Guidepost and The New Inn will be completed by end of July both pubs were purchased for an undisclosed sum from Spirit, the managed house arm of Punch Taverns.
