Family firm taken on by Tesco
A North East family who started a business from their kitchen table have struck a deal to sell their healthy drinks at Tesco.
The deal for Thorncroft Drinks, based in Eaglescliffe, Middlesbrough, to supply the supermarket chain with bottles of its Healthy Thirst brand comes after the company started supplying the range to National Trust properties in the region.
Their natural ingredient carbonated drinks will be available in 40 Tesco stores in the North East from this month.
Managing director Sheila Woodall said: “Thorncroft has worked closely with the Tesco Local Sourcing team to develop this latest range.
“This is a really exciting new opportunity for us as a small and dynamic company making waves in the giant soft drinks market.
“And it is the first time we have sold these types of drinks in Tesco.”
The National Trust sites stocking 330ml sizes of the drinks include Cragside, Gibside, Wallington and Fountains Abbey.
It is the latest success for a company which already supplies cordials containing natural ingredients to Tesco, as well as Sainsbury’s, Waitrose and Booths supermarkets, and a number of health food stores.
