Minister witnesses boom time for South Shields businesses
More than 30 South Tyneside businesses gathered together for a breakfast meeting with a very special guest.
Members of the South Shields, Cookson Chapter of Business Network International (BNI) welcomed David Miliband, their local MP and Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, to demonstrate how they have managed to beat the recession and expand their businesses through referrals.
The BNI meeting agenda includes an opportunity for members to highlight their business in a sixty second presentation and to request specific contacts and referrals from other members’ business contacts. Mr. Miliband used his allocated sixty seconds slot to praise local businesses for their positivity and entrepreneurial spirit during the present unsettled business climate.
Cookson BNI Chapter Director, Carl Mowatt said: “Because of our philosophy of ‘givers gain’, everyone is feeling the benefit. Being part of BNI has created real business opportunities and relationships and has helped us to counteract the effects of the credit crunch.”
Northumbria Executive Director Lynley Robb was delighted that her members had enjoyed the morning. “We are very honoured that Mr. Miliband took the time to network with our group. Despite the very early hour I think that he went away with a very positive view of how BNI members in South Shields are doing everything they can to resist the credit crunch effect.”
