Unite launches Labour campaign site
Britain’s biggest trade union today launched a new website aimed at boosting Labour’s chances of winning the next general election.
Unite has drawn on lessons its officials learned when they visited the United States to study tactics used during Barack Obama’s election campaign.
The site allows Unite members to contact Labour campaigners in their area as well as those in key seats.
The union said the website will play a crucial role in campaigning for a fourth term Labour government.
World light welterweight boxing champion Amir Khan helped launch the website at the Labour conference.
The former Commonwealth champion, a member of the union, chatted with Unite’s joint leaders Tony Woodley and Derek Simpson at the union’s stand in the exhibition area.
“He’s part of our plan to fight back,” quipped one union official.
