Eco jobs in Peterlee
Peterlee is set to be part of a new generation of Eco-stores after Tesco announced plans for a new supermarket creating 400 new jobs.
A public exhibition will be held this week to showcase plans for a new multi-million pound complex, which will also house a new library for the community.
Tesco’s corporate affairs manager, Doug Wilson, said: “We are delighted to announce details of proposals for Peterlee which will create hundreds of new jobs and boost the local economy.
“The store will revitalise the town centre and provide shoppers with competition and a fantastic choice of food.”
Jobs created will include full and part-time jobs with flexible working patterns which, according to Doug Wilson, are among the best rates of pay and benefits in the retail sector.
Training courses will range from basic retail skills through to graduate and management schemes.
The site at Peterlee would be one of a generation of Eco-stores, which are designed to reduce Tesco’s carbon footprint. They are clad in larch to maximise the use of glazing to provide as much natural light as possible.
They also have a combined heat and power unit to generate their own energy and roof ventilators to allow natural flow.
The pubic exhibition will be held at the public library in Burnhope Way, Tuesday 3 November from 2pm till 7pm, Wednesday 4 November, from 10am till 4pm and Thursday 5 November, from 2pm till 7pm.
