Business inclusion is ABC
Today sees the launch of a social enterprise aimed at bringing the North East and Asian business communities together.
Asian Business Connexions (ABC), www.abconnexions.org, plans to promote better relations and collaborative working.
Nitin Shukla, ABC’s chief executive and diversity officer at Gateshead Council, said: “ABC is a community interest company that will strengthen economic inclusion for minority ethnic groups and celebrate Asian business excellence. Its launch is a significant step forward for the North East and one of the positive outcomes we expect is greater cohesion between the thriving communities that this region boasts.”
The event has been organised during Inter Faith week to show ABC’s commitment to strengthening relations between people of different faiths.
Although today’s launch event is for stakeholders, including patrons, partners and regional influencers from local authorities and other bodies, an official members’ launch will take place early next year.
Jamie Martin, a patron of ABC and managing partner at Ward Hadaway, added: “The North East has been criticised for not being particularly entrepreneurial, however our Asian community is highly enterprising and very willing to share its knowledge and experience. Combining this expertise through the networks created by ABC should create a regional powerhouse that will open up market opportunities for all.”
