Major European medical conference comes to Tyneside
Newcastle and Gateshead have secured a European society’s flagship annual conference with over 1,100 delegates descending on the ‘twin cities’ from across the world in October 2011.
NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau helped secure the 52nd Annual Meeting of the European Society for Paediatric Research (ESPR) during their recent attendance at the global meetings exhibition, EIBTM, in Barcelona.
ESPR is a three-day conference which takes place at The Sage Gateshead and is estimated to have an economic impact worth £1m to the destination. The society’s previous UK appearance dates back to 1956.
Jessica Roberts, head of business tourism at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau said: “We’re delighted that this distinguished society of European experts will be holding their annual conference in NewcastleGateshead and look forward to making them feel most welcome. Our highly-regarded medical and academic fraternities make it an ideal destination for major association conventions.”
The ESPR conference is where top paediatric experts from around the world gather to discuss the latest research in childcare. The society’s 50th meeting recently took place in Hamburg.
