Airport launches legal bid
Durham Tees Valley Airport has launched a new legal bid for as much as £12m compensation from Bmibaby, according to the Sunderland Echo.
The airport claims the budget airline withdrew its fleet from the site in breach of binding contractual obligations.
The company which owns the airport - Peel Holdings - says Bmibaby Ltd’s decision to “abandon” operations at the airport in 2006 left it with a heavy financial shortfall, as it was remunerated by the airline “on a charge per departing passenger basis”.
