Turning pocket money into profit
Three thousandNorth East students will today take up Peter Jones’ challenge of raising over £55,000 in just one month, as part of Enterprise UK’s national Make Your Mark with a Tenner campaign.
A £10 note will be given to all participating young people in the North East, who will be challenged to use entrepreneurial creativity and business nous to make a profit on their tenner and make a difference to the community.
Today students from The Excelsior Academy in Newcastle will be handed their tenners by local entrepreneur Paul Campbell, founder of Newcastle–based digital technology company The Amazing Group and Enterprise UK ambassador.
Mr Campbell said: “It’s not often that kids in the North East are given the opportunity to test their ideas and creativity with cold, hard cash. I’m sure that Make Your Mark with a Tenner will show just how much young people can achieve through enterprise when trusted with the resources to turn their ideas into reality.”
The region’s students, who have been challenged to make £55,000 over the course of the month, will be challenged to multiply their ten-pound notes using their entrepreneurial creativity and business ideas. Any profits are kept by the students, and can be either ploughed back into their business or donated to a good cause.
The students taking part have the chance to win the money-can’t-buy prize of a one-to-one mentoring session and school assembly with leading entrepreneurs including Peter Jones, Eden Project founder Tim Smit and Firebox and Moshi Monsters CEO Michael Acton Smith.
The six winners will also be awarded £100 start up capital and support from a business mentor to help them develop their entrepreneurial ideas.
