From the factory floor to the catwalk
A former factory worker who left the production line last year to launch his own record label is now planning to enter the fickle world of fashion.
Gateshead’s Andy Bloomfield left his job in the automotive industry last year – after 18 years in the business – to set up music management firm Break Free.
The company, which aims to represent top talent from the North East, initially signed up singer-songwriter Oonagh Cassidy as his first act.
The teacher-turned-singer from Tynemouth signed a three-year deal and launched an EP entitled Then and Again.
Bloomfield has now signed his second act – young Sunderland-born talent Laura Stephenson – and remains focused on building up his portfolio in the music industry.
However, he is also about to launch his own fashion label and is currently on the look out for partners to help get it off the ground.
He said: “In the last few months we have been in the process of looking for manufacturers.
“The logo for the record label is very eye-catching and we want to have as a fashion label that will bring more people to our website.”
Bloomfield, who says the record label was borne out of a mid-life crisis, is also planning to move into larger office space in the long-term future
