Entrepreneur stamps out pests
A local entrepreneur is beating the economic downturn and ridding the region of pests by launching his own pest control business.
Dave Christie, 38, from Wallsend, has launched Saxon Environmental Services to make unwanted wildlife a thing of the past.
Serving the North East and borders, the business is waging waragainst wasps, rats, fleas, ants, cockroaches, and other invasive creatures.
Mr Christie said: “I’ve always been interested in environmental issues and I thought that this was a good year to take the plunge. After working as a hydraulic engineer in Newcastle for three and a half years, I felt the time was right to make a career change, and to have the flexibility of running my own company.
“It’s still a challenging economic climate but, that definitely doesn’t stop pests invading homes and businesses. Both rural and urban areas throughout the North East are constantly at risk of infestations. Though we may be welcoming the spring weather, milder temperatures mean that pests are now emerging from hibernation.”
The launch of Saxon Environmental Services comes at a time of year when the UK seems to be suffering a mini invasion – a recent survey, as reported by the Daily Mail earlier this month, found that a single train compartment houses a staggering 1,000 cockroaches, 200 bed bugs, 200 fleas, 500 dust mites and 100 carpet beetles.
