Lucrative conference comes to Tyneside
The North East economy will receive a shot in the arm today as the National Union of Students (NUS) brings hundreds of exhibitors, delegates and future leaders to the region.
Today’s NUS annual conference at The Sage Gateshead, coupled with next year’s event, which will also be held on Tyneside, will pump an estimated £1.3m into the North East economy.
The event is expected to bring 1,500 delegates to Gateshead, plus around 300 observers, exhibitors and media representatives.
Jessica Roberts, head of business tourism at NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau, said: “With five leading universities in North East England, this is an ideal place to live and learn and we hope the estimated 1,500 delegates that attend each conference get a flavour of this.”
Wes Streeting, NUS national president, said: “Students will this week discuss the future funding of further and higher education to ensure that the region is able to take continuing pride in the benefits of colleges and universities to families, communities and the wider economy.”
