Nissan suffers in ash cloud
Nissan will reportedly suspend production at two of its Japanese factories today after the volcanic ash cloud disrupted delivery of a key part imported from Ireland.
Japan’s third largest carmaker has not been able to get hold of crucial air pressure sensors due to the closure of European airspace, according to The Times.
The car manufacturer said it would stop production on one of two lines at its Oppama factory near Tokyo and on both lines at its factory in Kyushu in the south of Japan, on Wednesday.
The sensors detect any drop of air pressure in the cars’ tyres and issue a warning to the driver if the pressure falls too low.
Production of 2,000 cars from Nissan’s Cube, Murano and Rogue models are affected. These are mainly headed to North America, a spokesman said.
