Toon make rich list
US BUSINESS magazine Forbes has named Newcastle United as the 20th most valuable football club on the planet.
The figures value the club at US$1.835bn (£1.19bn), a 2% dip on last year.
The top 20 clubs have an average enterprise value (equity plus net debt) of US$632m compared to US$691m a year ago.
Manchester United topped the list while Arsenal came third, ahead of Liverpool in sixth, Chelsea in ninth, Tottenham Hotspur at 12th and Manchester City in 19th place.
Peter Schwartz, a business sports writer for Forbes, praised Manchester United’s resilience as ``one of the world’s biggest sporting brands“.
He said: “The club has really established itself as one of the top brands in world sport.
“New kit deals and great marketing has seen them maintain their status despite all the problems of the global recession.”
