Tech firm chairman to step down
THE chairman of an online search specialist which is currently in the process of building a 200-strong workforce in the North East, is to step down.
Leeds-headquartered Infoserve, which employs around 120 people at its fast-growing operation in Darlington, has announced that James Newman will step down at the end of this month.
Mr Newman, who has held the post since May 2006, helped guide the group through its IPO in June 2006.
Mr Newman believes that, since the company is in a comfortable financial position, this is the right moment to step down and the board has reluctantly accepted his request.
Newman has several other business interests, including his current role as Master Cutler and will now concentrate on this role as well as extending his current non-executive portfolio.
Current chief executive Steve Barnes will become executive chairman from 1 May.
Earlier this month Inforserve announced plans to more than double its North East workforce to beyond the 200 mark on the back of a £249,000 grant from regional development agency One North East.
The firm offers online marketing guidance to SMEs nationwide.
