Movie man puts faith in North East
A HOLLYWOOD producer has turned down a series of high profile film offers to focus on the region’s burgeoning video game industry.
Todd Eckert, producer of the acclaimed biopic Control – featuring the troubled life of Joy Division frontman, Ian Curtis – has spent the last two and a half years working with Gateshead based Eutechnyx on several video games that have taken the US by storm.
The company has already sold over a million copies of its hit racing game ‘Big Mutha Truckers’ in the States and is now working with revolutionary technology to create a whole new concept for the industry.
Mr Eckert said: “We have some very interesting things happening in the video game industry at the moment and Eurotechnyx and the North East are at forefront of that.
“One of the games we’re doing now is very much character orientated, given all the time I’ve spent in film and in music I can now transfer this knowledge into creating characters for a video game.
“We are collaborating with several well-known artists including Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Elbow. Don’t be surprised to see their characters popping up in our games very soon.”
