Major event for budget day
THE Institute of Directors is holding a special budget event for business leaders from the Tees Valley.
The Budget Live! will allow guests to watch George Osborne’s first Budget live and then hear a panel from politics, business, and trade unions discuss its implication.
The event, to co-incide with the coalition Government’s emergency Budget on June 22, is being hosted by the Institute of Directors Tees Valley committee and sponsored by Henderson Insurance Brokers (HIB), which has recently opened an office on Teesside.
The Budget will be broadcast live to an audience of leading North East business leaders and will be followed by a Question Time-style debate featuring a panel including Peter Wilkinson, group claims director of HIB, a representative from the Tees Valley Institute of Directors, Kevin Rowan, Northern regional secretary of the TUC, and Lord Bates, from the Conservatives.
The event will be held in Meadow at Lingfield Point, one of the largest single storey office buildings in the North East of England, which is owned by Marchday plc.
The business community will be looking to see what measures the new-look coalition Government will announce to help steer businesses out of the current difficult economic climate.
Mr Wilkinson said: “This will be one of the most important Budgets in recent history. Not only is it the first time for 70 years that the country has a coalition Government, but due to the current economic climate there is a huge deficit in Government finances to overcome.
“Tough decisions need to be made to plug this black hole and businesses will be keen to see whether the new Government will focus on spending cuts or increased taxes as it strives to balance the books.
“This event will provide business people with the ideal platform to exchange views on how they feel the coalition Government’s plans will affect the region.”
