Wrestlemania, music and dancing comes to town
LATINO culture arrives in the North East today with the launch of the ¡Vamos! Festival.
Salsa dancing, Columbian food, contemporary Afro-Cuban dance, photography and multimedia, and multi-genre performances will be on offer in Newcastle and Gateshead over the next 10 days.
On 9 July enjoy music from Señor Beatnik and authentic masked Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling, with screenings of films starring the Mexican wrestler legend Santo.
Meanwhile, there is also an accompanying season of films celebrating the centenary of the Mexican revolution.
A contemporary tango and jazz band is to begin the festival on Newcastle Quayside at 11am this morning.
This is to be followed by a launch party at Dance City, then an outdoor picnic at Saltwell Park tomorrow.
