Digital firm to plug innovation gap
A Middlesbrough digital technology firm is attempting to fill a yawning gap in the industry by offering secondary school children the chance to pick up a pioneering new course.
Developed by the Broadband Security Centre (BBSC), the new Level 1 City and Guilds course will provide specialist learning for 14-16 year olds in a bold move to give the next generation a grounding in wireless technology.
University of Teesside Graduate, Matt Davison, now head of education at the BBSC, said: “We know from our own experience that there is already a shortage of technicians with the skills and technical knowledge to integrate applications in a wireless network.
“Demand will rocket across a huge number of market sectors as the digital revolution gathers pace and more and more applications become available.
“That is why we have been so tenacious in presenting the industry perspective to City & Guilds and in developing a course that can be delivered by schools with readily available equipment such as digital TVs and routers.”
