WHILE incredibly painful for all concerned, could the deep public sector cuts which threaten our region along with the rest of the country, actually benefit the North East in the long-term?
Historically the region has lagged behind other parts of the UK when it comes to entrepreneurial spirit. Meanwhile, we are hugely reliant on public sector jobs and funding, with a vast proportion of our workforce employed directly or indirectly by the Government.
Could the tighter times ahead prove the catalyst for thousands of start-ups to rise to power, helping to diversify our economy, or will ongoing cuts do nothing more than set the North East back further? Join the bdaily group on LinkedIn and join the debate.
