COI to cut workforce by 40%
THE Government’s in-house communications team – which has an office in Newcastle – is to axe 287 jobs from its 737-strong workforce.
The Central Office of Information (COI) has issued ‘at risk’ letters to all of its staff who will now undergo a 90-day consultation period as the organisation looks for voluntary redundancies as part of its restructuring.
Chief executive, Mark Lund said: ’COI has always adapted to meet the requirements of government and the changing media landscape. A leaner COI is in line with new government priorities.
‘Our future will be grounded in continuing to deliver excellent communications to achieve government aims, in the most cost efficient and effective way possible,’ he added.
The COI employs eight people at its Newcastle office on Mosley Street.
