Thousands of hopefuls expected at jobs fair
GATESHEAD Council is hosting a major Jobs Fair for people looking for work in retail or customer services, or who simply want to know more about the local opportunities available.
Organised by Gateshead Council’s Economic Development Service, the event brings together a wide range of employers in one place with one simple aim - to recruit local people for the jobs they have on offer.
Gateshead holds a Job Fair every year and regularly attracts thousands of local people.
This year’s event takes place on September 21 at The Sage Gateshead between10am and 4pm and admission is free.
Among the companies returning this year is the contact centre specialists The Listening Company. Director Angalee Pandit says: “Last year’s event was the 2nd time we have attended the recruitment fair and we again found it a great source of untapped skills and talent in the North East. It’s an excellent environment with great facilities, and a great place to meet potential candidates!”
Joining Angalee will be organisations such as Currys, The AA, Royal Mail, Mothercare, John Lewis, Fenwick and Job Centre Plus, as well as Gateshead Council.
Visitors to the jobs fair can also take advantage of a CV MOT where they will be given advice on how to present their information in professional way in order to get that all important interview.
Cabinet member for Economy Councillor Malcolm Graham said: “We are committed to do everything we can to help local people back into work and support businesses to find the employees they need. The jobs fair is a practical example of this bringing job hunters together with those with jobs under one roof.”
