Greener future for North East business
A NORTH EAST tradesman expects to turn over £250,000 inside a year and expand throughout the UK and abroad thanks to an innovative energy efficient lighting venture.
With 40 years’ experience as an electrician, Maurice Towers, owner of the VIP Group has set up Lighting & Lights Ltd - offering energy efficient lighting to homes and businesses across the UK.
Mr Towers plans to take advantage of the high demand for energy efficient lighting in the UK – ahead of the Government’s green Building Regulations (Part L), which are to be released on 1 October.
He said: “The new Building Regulations (Part L) brought in by the Government will ensure a 25% improvement in energy efficiency compared to 2006 standards.
“My lighting will comply with these standards. I like the fact that my lighting range can help people save money and the environment.”
Mr Towers recently handed his business VIP Electricals, part of the growing VIP Group to his son, Darren Towers, to focus on the new business move.
The fledgling business now plans to expand into Leeds by the end of the year and is in discussions to supply companies in Portugal with its products.
