New film festival is on the button
A GROUP of cultural professionals who live and work in the region have confirmed the line up for a major film festival destined for Tyneside this month.
Taking place between 24 September and 03 October 2010, Press Play will present ten days of special events, music, dancing and films across unexpected spaces and locations in Newcastle.
The new venture will show a mix of new films from the international film circuit as well as a raft of well know classics.
Beth Bate of Press Play, said: “The six of us involved in this project have all worked on film festivals before and understand the cultural sector in the North East.
“We knew there was a gap in the market and room for a film festival which showed films that we were interested in and what we thought other people would like.
“It’s simply about screening good films for the people that live and work in the region.”
Highlights include the Half-Murraython in which Press Play pays homage to the comic actor by screening 13.1 hours of continuous Bill Murray films featuring seven feature length classics and the Ride in Movie, where the public will be able to get aboard a bicycle and head to Hoult’s Yard for an all day event featuring an array of entertainment and workshops for children.
Many venues will play host to the ten day festival including Tyneside Cinema, Side Cinema, Star and Shadow Cinema, St Vincent De Paul and Culture Lab.
