New exhibition takes youth culture on to new ground
HUMAN stories from the urban landscapes of India and the UK will come alive during a public cultural event at Northumbria University.
The touring show, entitled In the Further Soil, employs dance, music and the spoken word to illustrate the fast-changing globalised identities of young people in both countries.
Atmospheric jazz, urban dance and Afro-beats will be combined with Bengali baul songs, spoken word and Bharatanatyam dance during the event, which has been co-organised by the Pakistan Cultural Society and the MSc Community Wellbeing Programme of the School of the Built and Natural Environment at Northumbria.
The evening will also include a presentation on identity by Jatinder Verma, artistic director of Tara Arts.
In the Further Soil is a collaboration of international artists, written by Satinder Kaur Chohan, directed by Harmage Singh Kalirai and produced by Sampad in partnership with Teamwork Productions. The production is currently touring across cities in India and the UK.
