200 jobs call into Sunderland
OVER 200 jobs are expected to be on offer at a call centre recruitment fair in Sunderland later this week.
The event, which is being organised by Sunderland City Council, will give people the opportunity to find out about potential career opportunities in the contact centre industry.
Representatives from contact centres including EDF Energy, Lloyds TSB, NPower, Barclays, Fusion and Everything Everywhere will all be attending, as they look to line up the next generation of workers.
Councillor Paul Watson, Leader of Sunderland City Council, said: “Sunderland’s highly successful contact centre industry is a significant part of the city’s economy and continues to recruit people through both the ups and downs of the economic cycle.
“The jobs fair is an ideal opportunity for those out of work or looking to change career to find out about openings in the sector. It’s a fantastic industry in which to build a long term career and the promotion prospects are outstanding.”
In addition to the jobs, those wishing to develop their skills before applying for work will be able to find out about training options through Contact Centre Professional and City of Sunderland College’s Contact Centre Academy.
Already one of the biggest employers in the city with around 10,000 workers, the contact centre industry generates over £150 million for the local economy annually in salaries alone.
