Newcastle University expands throughout South East Asia
NEWCASTLE University is expanding its operations in South East Asia and hopes to attract 600 new students in Singapore inside three years.
The University is also preparing to open its new medical campus at Johor in Malaysia in September this year.
Degrees in Food & Human Nutrition (BSc Hons) and Mechanical Design & Manufacturing Engineering (BEng Hons) are being established at Nanyang Polytechnic in Singapore, and a degree in Chemical Engineering (BEng Hons) at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
All subjects, according to Newcastle University, are becoming increasingly important to Singapore’s economy.
Professor Ehsan Mesbahi, Chief Executive Officer of NU International Singapore, said: “I am delighted that our negotiations have come to fruition.
“Newcastle University is among the leading overseas Universities in South East Asia and we have a more established presence in Singapore than any other UK university.
“This is important because future expansion of international student numbers may depend largely upon a university’s ability to deliver degree programmes in the students’ home country.”
