North East firm bags film studio deal

A CONSTRUCTION firm has landed a share of a £100m deal to rebuild film studios which were once home to Batman, Harry Potter and James Bond.

County Durham-based CA Group has reportedly secured a multi-million pound share of the contract - the biggest building project of its type in the UK this year - and is expected to create jobs in the North East on the back of it.

Warner Bros is spending £100m to turn Leavesden Studios, in Watford, home to the Harry Potter series, into a filmmaking hub.

CA Group’s reputation as an innovator in major carbon neutral building projects was instrumental in its selection for the project.

The old film studios, that stretch across a site equivalent to 14 football pitches, were used to shoot blockbusters including Batman: The Dark Knight and the 007 movie GoldenEye.

The site is being razed to the ground to make way for the film hub.

Construction is due for completion at the end of the year and CA Group expects to take on about 25 extra staff to complete projects it has in the pipeline.
