Sunderland receives top accolade
The University of Sunderland has been ranked the best new university in the North East for the second year running in the Guardian University Guide 2012.
Sunderland was placed 4th nationally among new universities in the guide, which is recognised as one of the most relevant and comprehensive measures of higher education provision in the UK.
Sunderland is one of only four post ’92 universities to break into the top 50 of the rankings, a major achievement for a relatively young institution.
Professor Peter Fidler, University of Sunderland vice chancellor, said: “The rise in the Guardian rankings is very pleasing indeed. It is down in large part to the strong student experience at Sunderland, which was highlighted last year when we received the Times Higher Student Experience Award.”
The University of Sunderland has spent over £130m over the past few years upgrading its facilities, with the latest additions at its City Campus including CitySpace, a £12m sports facility.
