Software conference comes to Sunderland

Over 300 software developers are set to arrive in Sunderland next month, as the city plays host to one of the industry’s most popular conferences.

It is the first time that the Developer Developer Developer conference has come to the North East, and will allow individuals from the local and national software community to come together to showcase all they have to offer.

Being asked to host the conference on October 8th is a huge coup for the city of Sunderland, which is fast becoming a centre for sustainable and innovative software. It is hoped that the arrival of the conference to the region will further promote the city’s reputation for software excellence.

Leader of Sunderland City Council, Councillor Paul Watson said: “Past conferences have provided the software community with a brilliant forum to come together to share ideas and -with the agenda being community-led - hear from speakers they won’t have heard anywhere else, and we can’t wait to built on that at Developer Developer Developer North.”

The event will have a community led agenda, whereby attendees select the sessions and speakers themselves. This means that many of the speakers at the event will not be heard anywhere else.

Professor John MacIntyre, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Science, Technology and the Regional Economy at the University of Sunderland added: ““Sunderland is rapidly developing a reputation for excellence and critical mass in software development, with new start-up companies growing in the city and international organisations deciding to locate here.

“As one of the key partners in Sunderland Software City, the University is delighted to host the conference and we welcome the delegates and exhibitors to the city and to our campus.”

The North East has the highest number of software companies outside of London, with more than 350 active businesses across the region.
