UK signs up to Olympic Gold Challenge
50,000 people from across the UK have signed up to the Gold Challenge to take on Olympic themed activities and raise money for worthwhile causes.
This is more than double the previous total, which was announced on the 29th November, making the Challenge one of the UK’s largest challenges. The Government is hoping to sign up 100,000 participants by the end of 2012.
Dan Thompson, Gold Challenge Executive Chairman and Founder said, “When we announced 20,000 registrations in November, I was incredibly proud of the business and hoped we would keep the momentum going in the lead up to Christmas.
“I am thrilled that we have exceeded my expectations and that we will enter 2012, forecast to be our biggest year, in a fantastic position.”
Over 100 businesses have already signed up, and a schools programme is engaging children of all ages to get involved.
The team at Gold Challenge are now gearing themselves up to prepare for three test events which will be held in the Olympic Stadium on the 1st April 2012 for 20,000. The event will give members of the public the chance to run the 100m or the 4 x 100m in the Olympic Stadium, making them some of the first people to run on the track
Of this number, 15% of participants hail from Newcastle Upon Tyne, emphasizing the Olympic excitement which is brewing in the North East.
Mr Thompson added: “ We are looking forward to 2012 and hopefully inspiring over 100,000 people to get active by trying Olympic & Paralympic sports.“
