Meldrum Construction celebrates 10th birthday by improving processes
Established in 2001, Meldrum Construction Services (MCS) has recently celebrated its tenth birthday. The company is based in Birtley, County Durham, and employs over 80 time served tradesmen and construction experts who carry out its multi-million pound operations throughout the UK. MCS can provide a holistic ‘One Stop Shop’ service for construction projects between £0.2m - £4m. However, they also have four stand alone divisions that can manage smaller projects or subcontracting packages – Building, Civils, Small Works and M&E.
Although MCS is a company with a string of accreditations to its name including ISO 9001 and Investors in People, Managing Director Dave Meldrum and Margaret Dowe, Business Development Manager realised that to improve efficiency yet further they needed external help to review their business processes and so called upon NBSL for assistance.
NBSL were able to support the company by helping them access funding which enabled Dave and Margaret to engage Giles Johnston of Smartspeed to work with them on the development. The aim of the work undertaken was to improve business processes (including departmental analysis) in order to streamline and remove unnecessary processes and improve efficiency leading to further growth.
Following coaching and mentoring from Giles, Dave and Margaret were able to set out clear key performance indicators to improve team performance and new routes of authorisation to free up some of Dave’s time and resources leading to greater efficiency and increased profit margins
MCS has certainly gone from strength to strength during its anniversary year. The company has taken on more staff and set the wheels in motion for further expansion and development within its expressed mission to ‘To provide high quality construction solutions, ensuring complete customer satisfaction, delivered with an integrity and service level that is both recognised and valued by the client’.
