Did you know? Gear up to legislative changes

Did you know:

  • That from 1 April 2012 the rate of statutory maternity, paternity and adoption pay will increase from £128.75 to £135.45 per week.

  • That from 6 April 2012 employees bringing a claim for unfair dismissal will be required to have a qualifying period of employment of two years instead of one.

  • That coming soon, but with a date still to be confirmed, is the implementation of European Directive making 30 day invoice payment terms standard and compulsory for all businesses.

  • That the EU Consumer Rights Directive passed in October 2011 will make far reaching changes to the law on distance selling and will affect all businesses that don’t have ‘face to face’ contact with their customer when they sell their products or services. An implementation date has yet to be confirmed as EU countries will have up to two years to put the law in place. The changes will include (amongst other things) the banning of hidden charges and pre-ticked boxes, will extend the cooling off period and provide new rights to a refund.
