Gloucestershire LEP takes on youth employment responsibilities
Gloucestershire’s GFirst LEP has announced it plans to incorporate Gloucestershire Education Business Partnership within its organisation.
The move, which will happen in the next 12 months, aims to improve employment prospects for the county’s young people.
The GEBP has brought together local employers and schools for a number of years, with a view to improving work readiness.
David Owen, Chief Executive of GFirst, said: “Gloucestershire Local Enterprise Partnership has identified the need to equip our young people with the education and skills needed by our businesses and local economy.
“It is vital that the employees of tomorrow leave our education system with the skills needed to survive in a modern working world and this merger with Gloucestershire Education Business Partnership will help us to meet that aim.”
Chair of the Gloucestershire Education Business Partnership (GEBP) John Pinfold added: “I wholeheartedly welcome this important step forward in the way the crucial links between schools and businesses in Gloucestershire will be managed.
“The combined expertise of our two organisations will provide an excellent platform for bringing mutual benefit to the two sectors; developing the employability skills of the future workforce and facilitating close business involvement in the process.”
