Nissan sales hit record high
Profits at Nissan increased sharply in the first quarter of 2012, thanks to record global sales.
Nissan reported a net profit of 75.3 billion Yen (£585 million), which was more than double the figure recorded during the same period a year ago. During the financial year 2011, global sales reached 4.8 million units.
Carlos Ghosn, Nissan’s chief executive, said: “It is an even more encouraging performance given the headwinds created by natural disasters, an over-valued yen and uncertain global economic conditions.”
For the full year ending March 2012, the manufacturer reported a net income of 341.4 billion Yen, a 7% increase on the previous financial year.
These results were especially positive, as the carmaker has been faced with a number of challenges in the past year, including the earthquake and tsunami in Japan which caused disruption to production lines in Japan.
Flooding in Thailand also disrupted supply chains for the carmaker.
Nissan have now predicted an even better performance for the current financial year, forcasting global sales of 5.35 million units.
