How important are Jubilee Celebrations for the economy?

Retailers are set to benefit from the diamond jubilee celebrations, after it was estimated that the UK could spend as much as £823 million this weekend.

Despite the fact the memorabilia has flown off the shelves, some economists still remain cautious, after poor weather last month put a dampener on sales figures. However, others are beginning to take note of the effects of celebratory events on the economy, in a move which could help to fully quantify their importance
